Geraldine Nowee

Geraldine Nowee

Derby, Balgo,
Geraldine was born at Derby Regional Hospital and is the youngest of five daughters of Brandy Tjungurrayi (a senior lawman) and Nowee Nangala (deceased), from whom she inherited many Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) stories. Geraldine began painting in 2002 after watching both her mother and father paint.

She is a powerful and expressive painter, and her work has grown from strength to strength. Her palette is inspired by the various flowers, seeds, and bush tucker that flourish in the region throughout the year. Geraldine’s daughter, Serena Nowee, is also an esteemed painter in her own right.

Geraldine is an essential member of staff at the art centre. She works closely with her partner, Jackie Williams, and together they keep the day-to-day operations of the centre running smoothly!
