John Sara

Southwest, WA,
John Sara is a proud Ballardong (Wheatbelt), Whadjuk (Perth) and Banjima (Pilbara) man who lives and creates his work on Wadandi Country. He is an accomplished self-taught artist who has been painting since the 1980s, developing a strong visual language grounded in culture, memory and lived experience.

John’s paintings speak of stories passed down over generations, family history, identity and the land he holds close to his heart. His work reflects a deep connection to Country and the enduring strength of cultural knowledge. After a long break from painting, John has recently returned to his practice, sharing both earlier works and new pieces that continue to honour his heritage and personal journey.
