Lulu is a well-known artist. She was born at Lake Nash outstation in the Northern Territory (near the border of NT and QLD) in 1955. She began her career with the medium of batik, and then started painting on canvas. Lulu was involved in the Utopia Women’s Batik Group in the 80’s. Her work is represented in ‘A Picture Story’, a project initiated by CAAMA.
She learnt to paint by observing the prestigious Seven Petyarre Sisters (Ada Bird Petyarre, Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre, Nancy Petyarre, Myrtle Petyarre, Violet Petyarre and Jean Petyarre) and other female artists in Utopia.
Currently Lulu lives in Ampilatwatja with her family – husband, children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She has two daughters and one son. In her country, she enjoys painting and hunting for goanna. She often collects bush medicine for her grandchildren.
