Possum Rose

Whadjuk Country, WA,
Possum Rose is a Nanda Yamatji woman and mother of three, currently living on Whadjuk Country in the Perth region. Her ancestral connections reach back to Nanda Country along Western Australia's Mid West coast, north of Geraldton, around the mouth of the Murchison River and Kalbarri.

Although art has always been part of her, painting became her passion and purpose later in life. It provides a connection to her Elders, grounds her spirit and keeps her close to Country. Inspired by the natural world, Possum draws on the beauty of trees, water, colours and patterns found throughout the landscape.

Her practice is built on patience and detail, working with layers of colour using watered-down acrylics or solid backgrounds, finished with her signature fine dot work. Each dot is placed with care, allowing the patterns and designs of Country to emerge.
Through her art, Possum honours the Nanda women who came before her, including the legacy of her great-grandmother, while celebrating the enduring connection between family, culture and Country. Her paintings are a way of staying connected, finding healing and sharing the stories and beauty of her heritage.
