The leaves and seeds of the bush medicine plant were traditionally gathered, ground and mixed with animal fat to create an ointment, while the plant could also be boiled in water for medicinal use. In this artwork, fine dotwork represents the bush medicine seeds, highlighting the cultural knowledge held within the plant. Bettrina Pula Bundey is an Alyawarre artist from Irrultja who learnt to paint from her mother, Maisie Petyarre Bundey, continuing her family’s strong artistic and cultural traditions.
