Gloria Petyarre

Gloria Petyarre (1942-2021), also known as Gloria Pitjara was born in Utopia, Northern Territory, Australia. Bush Medicine Leaves is a traditional Indigenous plant, are a key motif for Gloria Petyarre and a number of Australian Aboriginal artists from Utopia in Central Australia. The story is an important one for Anmatyerre and Alyawarr people of Utopia. In the process of making their paintings the artists are paying homage to the spirit of the medicinal plant and encouraging its regeneration for its healing powers.
