Colours of Kambarang – Wildflower season. Kambarang is season of birth or wildflower season. (October and November). This is when the Boodja (country) is warming up and the rains are finishing. There is an abundance of colours and flowers are exploding all around. We see the Wattles, Banksia, Kangaroo paws, Native Wisteria and Orchids burst into bloom. The Moodjar tree stands out with brilliant orange/yellow flowers that hold deep cultural significance to the Noongar people. The vivid flowering begins at the end of Kambarang season, running into the season of Birak. The Moodjar tree (WA Christmas tree) is called the Tree of Souls by Noongar people. It is distinguished by its spectacular orange and yellow blossoms that carry profound cultural meaning. This sacred and powerful tree holds the souls of the departed, serving as a resting place before heading to the afterlife. The Noongar people consider the Moodjar sacred, knowing it has held our ancestors’ spirits within its branches.
