I painted my Corunna Series to reflect on our connection to country. This painting is my representation of the birthplace of my Pop Mervyn Sara Swan who was born on a creek bed on Corunna Downs station, near Marble Bar in the Pilbara Region. He spent his childhood between Corunna downs, Hillside station and Bamboo Springs. At 11 years of age with his two sisters, Marjorie and Ethel, Pop was forcibly removed as Stolen Generation, taken from his parents and stripped from everything he knew. He spent the remainder of his childhood at Sister Kates institute where he met his future wife, Doris Howard, my dad John Sara is one of their 9 children.

On our travels up north, it is important to us to visit Corunna. For us it is a special connection to my Pop and our family history.

Kim is a Ballardong Noongar, Banyjima and Nyiryaparli artist, living on, loving and respecting Wadandi Boodja
