This painting by Kim Kiosses represents an ongoing journey of discovery.

Her grandparents were part of the Stolen Generations, forcibly removed from their family and traditional lands. The impact of this separation has echoed through generations. Both grandparents were institutionalised at Sister Kate’s orphanage in Perth, where they met, married, and later raised a large family together.

Due to these policies, her family was denied access to information about their Aboriginal ancestry. It wasn’t until Kim was a teenager that the family began a journey back to the Pilbara region of Western Australia, seeking to reconnect with their history. Her parents then spent more than thirty years continuing this path of discovery, working to trace their family lineage.

Through these travels, the family has gained a deeper understanding of their history — visiting significant places, and reconnecting with relatives, community, culture, and Country.
