Kambarang – Wildflower season

Noongars Live by a six-season calendar.

Noongar people knew when the season changed by weather patterns, the movement of stars, the behaviour of birds, animals and the lifecycle of plants.

Kambarang is season of birth (October and November).

This is when the Boodja (country) is warming up and the rains are finishing. This is the height of the wildflower season; we see abundance of colours and flowers are exploding all around and the flowers are full of nectar. The Noongar moved towards the coast, where frogs, tortoises and freshwater crayfish were caught.

Kim is a Noongar Banyjima Nyiypali woman. She lives in Dunsborough and has been painting for over 4 years
