Karijni is in the Pilbara region of northwest of Western Australia.
The Banyjima, Innawonka and Kurrama are the traditional owners of Karijini national park. It is a site of deep cultural significance. Evidence of our ancestors date back more 20,000 years.
The rock formations are estimated at 2.5 billion years old.
Karijini is filled with dramatic gorges, waterholes and waterfalls. With colour, texture and reflections it is truly breathtaking scenery.
As Banyjima people, when gently sinking ourselves into the refreshing waterholes, we fill our mouths with water and spray it out of our mouths. This is to let our ancestors and spirits of the dreamtime know we are there and will treat the area with respect.
Kim is a Ballardong Noongar, Banyjima and Nyryaparli artist living in Dunsborough, loving and respecting Wadandi Boodja
