Sun Shining On Country by Kim Kiosses reflects the life-giving power of the sun and its deep cultural significance.

The sun, represented by the yellow circle on the Aboriginal Flag, is a symbol of life. Yellow also reflects the colour of ochre — a natural material collected and used in art and for body paint during important ceremonies.

In this work, Kim expresses the meaning of Country as more than just land. Country encompasses everything — land, water, sky, plants, animals, and people. It is not only physical, but also deeply spiritual and cultural, representing an ancestral connection that continues across generations.

Country is a place of belonging — a home where strong, respectful relationships are formed. For thousands of years, it has sustained Aboriginal people by providing all that is needed for life. Caring for and respecting Country remains a responsibility passed down through generations.
