Selina has painted spinifex that she can find in her country, Antarrengeny in Utopia region. Spinifex, or aptly named the porcupine grass, is a sharp pointed grass that is abundant in central Australia.
Selina uses a fan brush to paint spinifex. Dot work represents the seeds of spinifex.
Selina said “Spinifex is everywhere in Australia. It’s Australian thing, important. It’s also good bush medicine. We grind spinifex with rocks. Good for itchy. I paint spinifex moving by wind in my country.”
