Ngala – The Journey of Connection
This painting, Ngala, meaning “we, us, together” in Noongar, captures the deep bond between a grandmother whale (Maaman) and her granddaughter as they journey across the vast Ngari (ocean). The weaving patterns of water and spirit symbolize the unbreakable thread of kinship, passed through generations—a sacred connection of wisdom, protection, and love. As they migrate south with the changing seasons, their path echoes the rhythms of Country, guiding them home. The grandmother carries the knowledge of ancient waters, while the young one follows, learning the way. This is more than a migration; it is a passage of heart, healing, and belonging—a story of Ngala, where past and future unite in the great Ngari of life.
