In this painting, Yondee depicts water running into gnamma holes in the Lake Dumbleyung area 270 km south of Perth. The gnamma holes were created by lighting a fire on the slope of a large granite slab in order to crack the hard rock. A hollow would then be gouged out of the rock surface forming a hole. Gnamma holes, are especially important to Aboriginal people to store and capture and trap water during the summer months.
