APY Lands South Australia
The APY Lands, a significant Aboriginal local government region in the inland of South Australia, was founded in 1981. Encompassing over 100,000 square kms of arid terrain in the northwest corner of the state, it is home to Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara language speakers, totalling around 2,500 residents. The APY Lands comprise twenty communities and Homeland centres, with the administrative hub situated in Umuwa.
