Exhibition: Forty Years of Fire Dreaming Warlukurlangu at Yallingup Aboriginal Art

NAIDOC Week July 2026

Yallingup Aboriginal Art is proud to present Forty Years of Fire Dreaming, a landmark exhibition celebrating the extraordinary legacy of Warlukurlangu Artists -one of Central Australia’s oldest, most influential, and predominantly women-led Indigenous art centres. This special exhibition brings together a dynamic collection of acrylic paintings featuring bold colour, intricate patterning, and the powerful Jukurrpa (Dreaming) stories that define Warlpiri Country.

Established in 1985, Warlukurlangu Artists is a not-for-profit Aboriginal-owned art centre representing artists from the remote desert communities of Yuendumu and Nyirripi in Central Australia, alongside artists from the wider Warlpiri region including Yuelamu and Willowra.

Warlukurlangu, meaning “belonging to fire” in the Warlpiri language, is named after a significant fire dreaming site west of Yuendumu. Known for its bold iconography, vibrant colours, and richly layered depictions of Jukurrpa (Dreaming), Warlukurlangu Artists has become internationally recognised for its striking acrylic paintings, with works featured in major exhibitions and publications around the world.

The art centres in Yuendumu and Nyirripi are cultural hearts of their communities, where multiple generations of artists paint side by side, sharing stories, knowledge, and artistic traditions across families and generations. Each year, Warlukurlangu Artists works with and employs more than 800 artists, helping sustain and celebrate the continuation of Warlpiri culture through contemporary art practices.

It is with great excitement that Warlukurlangu Artists presents its first exhibition with Yallingup Aboriginal Art, in the Margaret River Region, coinciding with NAIDOC Week 2026. The exhibition reflects the growing relationship between Warlukurlangu Artists and Yallingup Aboriginal Art, built on a shared commitment to the ethical support, promotion, and celebration of First Nations artists and contemporary art practice.
