Reflecting on a powerful exhibition of story, Country, and culture through the eyes of Yondee.
We were proud to host an wonderful art exhibition by Ballardong Noongar artist Yondee Shane Hansen. His artwork draws deeply from cultural knowledge, Country, and connection. Visitors to the gallery experienced a powerful selection of Yondee’s paintings—each one telling a story, marking a place, and holding a moment.
Yondee grew up learning from his father and elders. He was shown the old ways of painting, storytelling, and walking gently with Country. That learning shows in every painting. His use of line art with ochre, bold tones, and sand textures brings the land to life. Many of his works speak to waterholes, rock formations, and the spirit that moves through them.
The collection featured pieces like Gnamma Holes and Rock Formations. These paintings explore places of water and shelter—vital sites for survival, gathering, and ceremony. Yondee blends abstract patterns with strong stories, making his work both contemporary and grounded in tradition.
Sharing his art with our community and visitors was a joy. Many left feeling moved, inspired, and more connected to Country. Like much of the work we show at Yallingup Aboriginal Art, Yondee’s paintings ask us to listen, reflect, and reconnect.
Although Yondee’s art exhibition has wrapped, selected works by Yondee Shane Hansen are still available in the gallery and online. We are also curating some of his pieces at Pullman Bunker Bay. We would love for you to come by, have a yarn, and experience these special pieces in person.
