This artwork tells the story of Birak, the first of the Noongar Six Seasons, when the warm easterly winds carry the heat across Country and fire becomes a part of caring for the land. The flowing lines represent the gentle movement of cultural burning, guided with knowledge and respect by Noongar people. These cool burns renew the bush, clearing old growth so fresh plants, wildflowers and new life can return. The circular meeting places reflect families gathering to share stories, pass on cultural knowledge, and strengthen connections to Country during the long summer days.

The vibrant reds, pinks and golds capture the glow of fire, the warmth of the sun, and the energy of a living landscape. Every dot and pathway reminds us that fire is not only a force of change but also one of healing, renewal and balance.

This artwork honours the wisdom of Noongar Ancestors, whose deep understanding of Birak continues to teach that when we care for Country, Country cares for us.
