This artwork tells the story of Bunuru, the hottest of the Noongar Six Seasons, when the sea breeze brings relief from the summer heat and families are drawn to the coast. During Bunuru, the ocean becomes a place of gathering, nourishment and connection. The flowing blue waters represent the rivers and ocean meeting Country, while the schools of fish remind us of the abundance the sea provides. The vibrant pinks, blues and oranges reflect the colours of coral, shells, wildflowers and glowing sunsets across the coastline. The pathways symbolise families walking together along the shore, sharing stories, laughter and knowledge from one generation to the next.

Bunuru is a time of celebration, where children play in the water, Elders teach respect for the sea, and communities gather to harvest sustainably, always giving thanks for what Country provides. Every circle and flowing line reflects the rhythm of the tides and the deep connection between people, land and sea.

This artwork honours Bunuru as a season of warmth, abundance and togetherness, reminding us that the coastline is not only a place of beauty, but a living part of Noongar Country that continues to nurture culture, family and spirit.
