At Yallingup Aboriginal Art Gallery, we are proud to share the living culture of the Wadandi and Bibbulman people through Koomal Dreaming. Created and led by local cultural custodian Josh Whiteland, Koomal Dreaming offers a meaningful way to connect with Noongar Country and its stories, spirit, and people.
What is Koomal Dreaming?
Koomal Dreaming cultural experiences take place on Wadandi Boodja, in the South-west of Western Australia. Through guided bushwalks, visitors discover traditional bush foods, native plants, and the six Noongar seasons. These immersive tours also highlight culturally significant places and share Dreaming stories passed down through generations.
Josh demonstrates traditional skills such as fire-making and bush medicine preparation. One unforgettable part of the tour is the didgeridoo performance in Ngilgi Cave, where sound travels through the earth, creating a strong connection to land and culture. These experiences offer not only education, but deep respect and insight into the Wadandi people’s relationship with Country.

In addition to leading cultural tours, Josh Whiteland is an accomplished visual artist. His paintings reflect the stories, symbols, and spirit of his Wadandi heritage. Each artwork expresses his deep connection to Country and his role as a cultural educator.
