As Makuru, the cold and wet season, begins to soften, Noongar Boodja slowly awakens. The rains have nourished the earth, filling the waterways and giving strength to the roots beneath the ground. Then comes Djilba, bringing a changing sky, cool mornings, gentle rain and warmer days.

Across Country, the first signs of new life begin to appear. In this artwork, the flowing pathways represent the movement of the seasons and the continuing journey of Country. Layers of purple, pink, red and gold reflect the changing colours of the bush as native flowers begin to bloom.

The blossoms open to the warming sun, while birds, insects and animals become more active among the fresh growth. What was quiet and resting through winter begins to dance with life again.

The transition from Makuru to Djilba reminds people that Boodja is never still. Each season brings its own gifts, preparing Country for what comes next.
